Psalm 37 for God's Directions & Promises

Psalm 37 has been on my mind for a couple of weeks now. Today, I studied it closely during my quiet time. Could there be immediate directions or inspirational promises for you hidden away in this psalm of David? I think it's worth your time. You can read it below from The New Living Translation of The Holy Bible::

(1) Don’t worry about the wicked or envy those who do wrong. (2) For like grass, they soon fade away. Like spring flowers, they soon wither. (3) Trust in the Lord and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. (4) Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. (5) Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you. (6) He will make your innocence radiate like the dawn, and the justice of your cause will shine like the noonday sun. (7) Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes. (8) Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper— it only leads to harm. (9) For the wicked will be destroyed, but those who trust in the Lord will possess the land. (10) Soon the wicked will disappear. Though you look for them, they will be gone. The Lord’s enemies are like flowers in a field— they will disappear like smoke. (21) The wicked borrow and never repay, but the godly are generous givers. (22) Those the Lord blesses will possess the land, but those he curses will die. (23) The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. (24) Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand. (25) Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread. (26) The godly always give generous loans to others, and their children are a blessing. (27) Turn from evil and do good, and you will live in the land forever. (28) For the Lord loves justice, and he will never abandon the godly. He will keep them safe forever, but the children of the wicked will die. (29) The godly will possess the land and will live there forever. (32) The wicked wait in ambush for the godly, looking for an excuse to kill them. (33) But the Lord will not let the wicked succeed or let the godly be condemned when they are put on trial. (34) Put your hope in the Lord. Travel steadily along his path.He will honor you by giving you the land. You will see the wicked destroyed. (35) I have seen wicked and ruthless people flourishing like a tree in its native soil. (36) But when I looked again, they were gone! Though I searched for them, I could not find them! (37) Look at those who are honest and good, for a wonderful future awaits those who love peace. (38) But the rebellious will be destroyed; they have no future. (39) The Lord rescues the godly; he is their fortress in times of trouble. (40) The Lord helps them, rescuing them from the wicked. He saves them, and they find shelter in him.

My Dad and I are in the waiting room at the hospital. Not a favorite place to be at Christmastime, but we sense God's favor anyway.

Mom had hip surgery on Monday after she missed the bottom step coming down the stairs Sunday morning at 6 a.m. She thought her pain was only her arthritis, but later in the day after an ambulance ride to the Emergency Room, we learned her hip was indeed fractured. Recovery and rehabilitation are underway now. Her pain has been intense.

Dad and I are interceding in quiet prayer as the nurses are attempting to get Mom on her feet in her room. When I sat down, I plugged in my computer to listen to God's Word through my ear phones. I glanced over at Dad and he had the Gideon's Holy Bible open in his hand. Like his Mother, my Granny Margery, Dad whispers audibly when he reads "silently". Seeing my Dad whispering God's Word as I listen to God's Word warms my heart. We have no one else to turn to but God. And, we need no one else.

Our God, You are The Only God. There is None Like You! In Jesus' Name. Amen.

My Life's Testimony in Psalm 71?

As I was reading through the Psalms, I came upon Psalm 71:17-22 in The Message Paraphrase of The Holy Bible. Talk about finding myself in the midst of God's Word! The Psalmist surely wrote out my own life's testimony. Here it is:

You got me when I was an unformed youth, God, and taught me everything I know. Now I'm telling the world Your wonders; I'll keep at it until I'm old and gray. God, don't walk off and leave me until I get out the news of Your strong right arm to this world, news of Your power to the world yet to come, Your famous and righteous ways, O God. God, You've done it all! Who is quite like you?

Cut Straight to Our Hearts

For the Word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

God's Holy Word is very clear, even compared with a double-edged sword for its sharp penetration into our lives.

Everything in the Scriptures is God's Word. All of it is useful for teaching and helping people and for correcting them and showing them how to live. -- 2 Timothy 3:16 (CEV)

Here's a passage from the Old Testament Book of Wisdom, Proverbs, that is about as clear, sharp, and penetrating as one can imagine:

(20) Obey the teaching of your parents--
(21) always keep it in mind and never forget it.
(22)Their teaching will guide you when you walk, protect you when you sleep, and talk to you when you are awake.
(23)The Law of the Lord is a lamp, and its teachings shine brightly. Correction and self-control will lead you through life.
(24) They will protect you from the flattering words of someone else's wife.
(25) Don't let yourself be attracted by the charm and lovely eyes of someone like that.
(26) A woman who sells her love can be bought for as little as the price of a meal. But making love to another man's wife will cost you everything.
(27) If you carry burning coals, you burn your clothes;
(28) if you step on hot coals, you burn your feet.
(29) And if you go to bed with another man's wife, you pay the price.

Lord, let Your Holy Word cut straight to our hearts that we might be saved from all sin and shame. We ask it in the name of "The Word Who became flesh and made His dwelling among us" -- Jesus, the Christ. Amen. (John 1:14)

God's Word on a Grave Marker in Cairo

Through the night there has been chaos in the streets of Cairo, Egypt. Dangerous political demonstrations are underway in Tahrir Square. Still, there's peace in my heart about it all and the reason for my peace may seem like an unusual reason to some. You see, Rev. Oswald Chambers, author or My Utmost for His Highest, died in Cairo, Egypt while serving as a chaplain to the British troops who were stationed there in World War I. Brother Oswald was buried in The Old Cairo Cemetery and his grave was (and still is to this day) simply marked with a white cross-engraved headstone. Luke 11:13 from God's Holy Word is also profoundly inscribed at the foot of that grave marker:

If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in Heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him! (NIV)

You too can rest in unusual peace, Cairo. Only come to the Prince of Peace. Indeed, the Son of God will give you rest for your unrest (Matthew 11:28-30). Also, God the Father will give you The Holy Spirit if you only ask (Luke 11:13). There's an early 1900's grave marker, yes an old white cross-engraved headstone in your old city's burying grounds that declares this message to be true.

How to live in revival as a lifestyle:

(1) Align -- Get right and stay right with God and others.
(2) Agonize -- Travail in fervent prayer.
(3) Acknowledge -- Keep God's Word paramount at all times.
(4) Anointing -- Be reliant on the Holy Spirit's presence.

IF MY PEOPLE... WILL? I WILL! God's Promise in 2 Chron. 7:14.
