The Rules by Kim McLean
There is a verse in the Bible that is hard to believe. I John 3:9. “No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he CANNOT go on sinning because he has been born of God.”
How is this possible? It IS possible, because when we are born of God we begin to take on God’s nature – which is love. To be “born of God” is to make a choice to live by God’s law – which is love. This happens by faith in God, in Jesus Christ. It happens day by day, choice by choice. We believe by faith, we say in our heart, “Thy will be done,” and we become by grace what God is by nature.
This is the Christian message. It’s about life. Being fully alive, reaching our greatest potential as human beings in God’s beautiful world. What a picture!! Consider Colossians 3:12-14. Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” And consider Galatians 5:22 where love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control are described by Paul as our new natural inclinations.
Some people seem to think that Christianity is full of rules. Yes, it is about rules, but it is the most natural thing in the world to abide by them:
Rule #1: Love God. It’s the best thing you’ll ever do for yourself.
Rule #2: Love one another. I’m talking about family and friends. Not so hard, right?
Rule #3: Love your enemies. Put forgiveness into the world, into the universe.
Now abides faith hope and love – but the greatest of these is LOVE.
If we are born of God? We Cannot Go On Sinning....

Make Us One
If you rebel against the Lord today, He will be angry with all of us tomorrow.-- Joshua 22:18b (NLT)
God you demand and deserve a holy people. Help us as a whole community to totally turn from rebellion against you to true relationship with you. Lead us one-by-one from sinning to worshipping and make us one in Your Spirit, yes, one in You Lord. In Jesus' name. Amen.
I pray that they will all be one, just as You and I are one—as you are in Me, Father, and I am in You. And may they be in Us so that the world will believe You sent Me.

Who's Your Daddy? God or the Devil?
1 John 3:1-10 (NLT) is direct and powerful. Sounds like John is basically asking Who's Your Daddy? God or the devil?
(1) See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for He allows us to be called His children, and we really are! But the people who belong to this world don’t know God, so they don’t understand that we are His children. (2) Yes, dear friends, we are already God’s children, and we can’t even imagine what we will be like when Christ returns. But we do know that when He comes we will be like Him, for we will see Him as He really is. (3) And all who believe this will keep themselves pure, just as Christ is pure. (4) Those who sin are opposed to the law of God, for all sin opposes the law of God. (5) And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, for there is no sin in Him. (6) So if we continue to live in Him, we won’t sin either. But those who keep on sinning have never known him or understood who He is. (7) Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it is because they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. (8) But when people keep on sinning, it shows they belong to the Devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy these works of the Devil. (9) Those who have been born into God’s family do not sin, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they have been born of God. (10) So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the Devil. Anyone who does not obey God’s commands and does not love other Christians does not belong to God.

Returning Home
Repentance is more than being remorseful for our rebellion.
Repentance goes beyond just being sorrowful for our sins.
Repentance is only made complete by returning home.
I believe the greatest piece of literature ever penned is the story Jesus told in Luke 15 about a son lost in rebeliion, a son lost in religion, and their loving, relational father.
In the passionate story, the rebellious son was obviously remorseful for his rebellion but that was not equal to complete repentance. Yes, he was sorrowful for his sins but he was still lost in the filth of the pig pen. His repentance was only nearing completion when he turned his back on his sinning and began walking in the light towards His Father's House and a new beginning. The Prodigal Son went from being totally lost to being totally found by returning home.
Lord, indeed, we must be sorry for our sins, but we must also go beyond our sorrow and leave the sin-pig-pen for the Father's House. Find us returning home where Your embrace of Holiness waits to warmly welcome us in from the frigid far-country of sinning... for forever and today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
