The Chanteymen from Beaufort, North Carolina

In the mid-1990s, i was blessed to hear the Beaufort, North Carolina Menhaden Fishermen known as the Chanteymen sing on my native Harkers Island. It moved me deeply. Coming from a family of fisherman and having had a grandfather who worked as a Menhaden fisherman, Lloyd Gray Davis, i was especially blessed to experience the re-enactment of these old songs of joy and sorrow sung sacredly by these great men.

Some may not get this YouTube, while others will have moist eyes before it’s complete. Enjoy. It’s all good.

Oh, I love that! Watched and listened with tears running down my face. May the people of God be like those precious men, singing as we give our lives to bring in the nets. May we be like the nets themselves, knotted together for God's use. Please, Lord, make us truly one, as You are One!
