The Last Mile of The Way — “Brother Sam”

Today, I spoke on the phone tenderly with a dear friend and mentor — Pastor “Brother Sam” Pickenpaugh. While Jesus is The Hero of the faith, Brother Sam is a hero of the faith. He is a retired pastor, missionary, and district superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene. Jesuslikeness defines him.

Brother Sam has been battling cancer for a few years now and today it seems he senses that he is nearing the end of the road. His family called me and put the phone to his ear and we shared some very beautiful exchanges.

Here are some of the things the Lord spoke through me to him:

Stay surrendered!

Jesus will not abandon you!

You are battling that last great enemy, death, but you will prevail.

Yeah though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for You are with me.

You are drawing nearer to that Celestial City.

One way or another we will all be together soon where sorrow has given way completely to celebration.

When I’ve gone the last mile of the way, I shall rest at the close of the day. And I know there is joy that awaits me, when I’ve gone the last mile of the way.

I love you, Pastor Sam. What a godly gentleman you are!

Presence Matters Most!
That is... Presence. Unity. Souls. Love.
