These words recently came through my mind: "Being forever willing does not mean you are never weary."
In other words, my life is wholly surrendered to the Lord, nevertheless, at the same time, I’ve been keenly aware that human weariness has also been my recent reality.
Today, a dear pastor friend asked me: "How are you?" I answered honestly: "All is well, however, I am ready for the holidays." Yes, I’m not really wrestling right now spiritually, but physically and mentally I can tell I need some rest. So, I have written some upcoming rest into my calendar mid-week this week (even before the holidays officially arrive.)
My surrender to the Lord is total, yet, some days of sabbath are not in conflict with surrender. Quite the contrary, sabbath actually compliments surrender. I am sure of it. In fact, all of these words go together — surrender, willingness, salvation, stillness, trust, wait & rest.
This passage warns us to slow down, to turn around, and to rest:
"This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: "In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. You said, ‘No, we will flee on horses.’ Therefore you will flee! You said, ‘We will ride off on swift horses.’ Therefore your pursuers will be swift! A thousand will flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you will all flee away, till you are left like a flagstaff on a mountaintop, like a banner on a hill." Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!" Isaiah 30:15-18 NIV
