"When modern theologians do away with certain language that former generations gave to us, it does not mean we are smarter about spiritual things than they were (not by any stretch of the imagination.) Mainly, it probably points to the fact that they knew what they were talking about, and we do not know what they were talking about. Case in point, when it comes to our problem of Sin, they knew what they meant by the term ‘eradicate.’ We would rather do away with the idea rather than seek to understand what they meant by it. Food for thought. A theologian born in the early 1900s once told me what they meant by ‘Sin being eradicated by the arrival and indwelling of the Holy Spirit.’ Therefore, i dare not let go of the idea. It spells Hope for my own spiritual soul and makes the Good News more ‘Gooder’ whenever I share it ." -kww
"For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be DESTROYED, that henceforth we should not serve sin." Romans 6:5-6 KJV
"For if we have become one with Him [permanently united] in the likeness of His death, we will also certainly be [one with Him and share fully] in the likeness of His resurrection. We know that our old self [our human nature without the Holy Spirit] was nailed to the cross with Him, in order that our body of sin might be DONE AWAY WITH, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin. For the person who has died [with Christ] has been freed from [the power of] sin." Romans 6:5-7 AMP
