The Wicked Vs. The Godly

"Hiding hatred makes you a liar; slandering others makes you a fool. The fears of the wicked will be fulfilled; the hopes of the godly will be granted. When the storms of life come, the wicked are whirled away, but the godly have a lasting foundation." Proverbs 10:18, 24-25 NLT

“I’ve Come Too Far to Look Back!”

This Southern Gospel song touched my heart deeply, today:

I've come too far to look back again

There is nothing behind me

All the pleasures I used to love

Have all faded from view

There's a new day ahead for me

My heartache is over

I left it at calvary

Where my new life begins

I've come too far to look back

My feet have walked through the valley

I've climbed mountains, crossed rivers

Desert places I've known

But I'm nearing the home shore

The redeemed are rejoicing

And heaven's angels are singing

I've come too far to look back

Look around, there's unhappiness

Some see no reason for living

Life will give you a broken dream

Full of heartache and fear

Turn around, don't look back again

Face the new day before you

Place your heartache in Jesus' hand

He will mend broken dreams

I've come too far to look back

My feet have walked through the valley

And I've climbed mountains, crossed rivers

Desert places I've known

But I'm nearing the home shore

The redeemed are rejoicing

And heaven's angels are singing

I've come too far to look back

But I'm nearing the home shore

The redeemed are rejoicing

And heaven's angels are singing

I've come too far to look back

Too far to look back

Psalm 101 — “Above Reproach”

“I will sing of your love and justice, Lord. I will praise you with songs. I will be careful to live a blameless life— when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home. I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil. I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me. I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence. My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.” Psalms‬ ‭101‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When God Speaks and Breathes

“The Lord merely spoke, and the heavens were created. He breathed the word, and all the stars were born. He assigned the sea its boundaries and locked the oceans in vast reservoirs. Let the whole world fear the Lord, and let everyone stand in awe of Him. For when He spoke, the world began! It appeared at His command.” Psalms‬ ‭33‬:‭6‬-‭9‬ ‭NLT

“Even in Old Age” [Produce Fruit]

“But the godly will flourish like palm trees and grow strong like the cedars of Lebanon. For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God. Even in old age they will still produce fruit; they will remain vital and green. They will declare, “The Lord is just! He is my rock! There is no evil in Him!” Psalms‬ ‭92‬:‭12‬-‭15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

[All] “Stand in Awe of God!”

“The highest angelic powers stand in awe of God. He is far more awesome than all who surround His throne. O Lord God of Heaven’s Armies! Where is there anyone as mighty as You, O Lord? You are entirely faithful.” Psalms‬ ‭89‬:‭7‬-‭8‬ NLT

Create. Renew. Restore.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.” Psalms‬ ‭51‬:‭10‬-‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Psalm 42

“As the deer longs for streams of water, so I long for you, O God. I thirst for God, the living God. When can I go and stand before him? Day and night I have only tears for food, while my enemies continually taunt me, saying, “Where is this God of yours?” My heart is breaking as I remember how it used to be: I walked among the crowds of worshipers, leading a great procession to the house of God, singing for joy and giving thanks amid the sound of a great celebration! Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God! Now I am deeply discouraged, but I will remember you— even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan, from the land of Mount Mizar. I hear the tumult of the raging seas as your waves and surging tides sweep over me. But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life. “O God my rock,” I cry, “why have you forgotten me? Why must I wander around in grief, oppressed by my enemies?” Their taunts break my bones. They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?” Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!” Psalms‬ ‭42‬:‭1‬-‭11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“Even If You Should Suffer…”

“Now who is there to hurt you if you become enthusiastic for what is good? But even if you should suffer for the sake of righteousness [though it is not certain that you will], you are still blessed [happy, to be admired and favored by God]. Do not be afraid of their intimidating threats, nor be troubled or disturbed [by their opposition]. But in your hearts set Christ apart [as holy—acknowledging Him, giving Him first place in your lives] as Lord. Always be ready to give a [logical] defense to anyone who asks you to account for the hope and confident assurance [elicited by faith] that is within you, yet [do it] with gentleness and respect. [Is 8:12, 13] And see to it that your conscience is entirely clear, so that every time you are slandered or falsely accused, those who attack or disparage your good behavior in Christ will be shamed [by their own words]. For it is better that you suffer [unjustly] for doing what is right, if that should be God’s will, than [to suffer justly] for doing wrong.” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭3‬:‭13‬-‭17‬ ‭AMP‬

"What Joy…" from Psalm 84

"What joy for those whose strength comes from the Lord, who have set their minds on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. When they walk through the Valley of Weeping, it will become a place of refreshing springs. The autumn rains will clothe it with blessings." Psalms 84:5-6 NLT

Excerpt from Brother Lawrence’s Writings

“I took a resolution to give myself up to GOD, as the best satisfaction I could make for my sins; and, for the love of Him, to renounce all besides. For the first years, I commonly employed myself during the time set apart for devotion, with the thoughts of death, judgement, hell, heaven, and my sins. Thus I continued some years applying my mind carefully the rest of the day, and even in the midst of my business, to the presence of GOD, whom I considered always as with me, often as in me. At length I came insensibly to do the same thing during my set time of prayer, which caused in me great delight and consolation. This practice produced in me so high an esteem for GOD, that faith alone was capable to satisfy me in that point.”
